A construção - The Building (I)

Depois do agito que foi a visita da MJ e o suspense da sua viagem até a próxima anfitriã, finalmente posso voltar a postar sobre a loja. Se você curte construir seus próprios ambientes, poderá curtir estes posts. Senão, vai achar muito chato, rsrs... Vou procurar fornecer o máximo de informação possível, sem me extender demais. :)
After the adventures with MJ and the suspense of her trip to the next hostess, I can finally start posting about my 19th century store progress. If you enjoy building your own settings, you'll probably enjoy this series of posts. If not, I'm afraid you'll be bored to death... lol. I'll try to supply as much information as possible, without lingering too much. :)

Hoje vou falar sobre uma das laterais da estrutura. Como já havia dito antes, quero fazer com tijolos, e mais tarde colocarei um anúncio, como nessa foto aqui. Ok, nesta foto não tem tijolo aparente. Mas eu acho bonito e me faz lembrar de casas antigas, das construções do séc. 19 que vi na minha infância, na cidade do interior. As fachadas eram bem acabadas, mas as laterais, não muito, principalmente porque eram coladas umas nas outras. Como se raciocinassem "o vizinho que cuide da parede do lado dele..." E, enquanto o vizinho não vem, coloca-se anúncios! :)
Today I'm talking about the finishing I gave to one of the sides of the building. As I said before, I wanted it to be made of bricks. Later I'll place some ads on it, like on this picture below. Ok, in this picture the wall is not made of visible bricks. But I like that kind of finishing and it reminds me of some 19th century buildings I saw in the countryside town I lived in my childhood. The facades were well finished, but the sides, not so much. It was as if they thought "This side of the wall should concern my neighbor, as he's the one who'll use it!". The buildings usually shared the side walls... And while there is no building next door: let's make some money by placing some ads! :)

Para fazer os tijolos, resolvi usar um material sugerido por Regina Passy, e que funciona maravilhosamente bem: EVA! Comprei uma folha mais ou menos na cor de tijolo, fiz manchas aleatórias em vários tons de sombra. Isso mesmo, sombra! Sombra de maquiagem, para os olhos. Tinha várias aqui, já vencidas e que não uso mais, mas excelentes para este fim. Colei uma tira na guilhotina para manter a folha bem na distância certa para cortar mantendo as tiras iguais. Foi a melhor maneira que descobri para cortar tiras iguais. Com régua e estilete ou tesoura não consegui bem, mas assim mantive coerência.
To make the bricks, I decided to use a material suggested by Regina Passy, and it works beautifully: EVA! I found a sheet that had approximately a brick color, made some blobs of different shadows here and there. Yes, that's right: I used eye shadows! I had several different shades. No longer usable (expired) or used, but perfect for miniature shading... :) I glued a stop on the paper-cutter (or you could use a "duplicate-it"...) to make sure I would get the same width of strips every time  and cut a lot of them! It was the best way for me to get even strips. I had tried using scrapbook ruler and craft knife and also scissors, but I wasn't pleased with the result. This way, they all were almost exactly the same width.

Depois fiz um gabarito de papel paraná com um corte no lugar certo para manter os tijolos do mesmo comprimento (veja na foto). O segundo corte, que teoricamente me permitira cortar 4 tijolos por vez, logo se desfez por estar muito na beirada. Com a experiência, hoje faria um gabarito diferente, mas este funcionou! A mancha escura do papel paraná é que coloquei cola tipo 'superbonder' para tornar o papel mais duro e resistente para aguentar todos os cortes que fiz! Usei uma lâmina de um só gume para realizar os cortes.
Then I made a jig out of solid cardboard (the same kind they use to make shoe boxes), so as to make sure I'd cut all bricks the same length (see picture). The second slit, which was supposed to allow me to cut 4 bricks at a time, soon collapsed as it was too close to the edge. With the experience I had, now I'd probably make a different jig, but this one worked! The dark 'stain' on the cardboard is because I used super-glue to harden it and make it more resistant to last longer. I used a one-side shaving blade with the jig.

Aí comecei a colar as fileiras, usando a cola Aileen's tacky glue. Ela é boa porque segura no lugar mais rápido do que cola branca comum. Mas se quiser, pode usar cola de EVA mesmo. A distância entre os tijolos entre si em cada fileira fui determinando meio 'no olho'. Para a primeira fileira, usei um cartão triplex (veio dentro de uma embalagem qualquer que guardei). Na segunda, procurei colocar o espaço entre os tijolos da fileira no meio de cada tijolo da fileira de baixo. Daí por diante, foi no 'olhometro' mesmo, tentando mantê-los alinhados. Só usava o cartão para manter a mesma distância entre as fileiras, como na foto...
Nest I started gluing the bricks in place. I used Aileen's tacky glue. The ultimate Crafter's choice is also another good option. I eyeballed the distance between the bricks within a row. For the first row, I used a thin cardboard I had saved, which came with some packaging (cosmetics, perfume, candies, I don't remember...) to space the bricks evenly. For the second row, I just tried to keep the spaces in the middle area of each brick from the first row. For all the other ones, I just eyeballed them, trying to keep them all aligned. I only used the cardboard to keep an even space between the rows, as you can see in the picture...

O progresso foi MUITO lento, pois só conseguia fazer duas fileiras por vez. Mais do que isso, desalinhava tudo! Tinha que esperar a cola secar bem, pelo menos 15 minutos. Aí eu ia fazer outra coisa e acabava voltando só uma hora depois... rsrs...
The progress was VERY slow, it took me several days to finish this wall. I could only make two rows at a time. If I tried more, all the bricks would slide and mess up the alignment. So, I had to wait at least 15 minutes for the glue to dry and hold them in place. So, I'd go do something else, and ended up coming back only one hour (or more) later... :)

Hoje eu teria pintado a base na cor que gostaria que fosse o 'cimento', pois queria deixar os tijolos mais 'em relevo'. Mas não pensei nisso, e a parede estava verde... Então, tinha que colocar o 'cimento' entre os tijolos. Lá fui eu fazer o 'cimento': um pouco de gesso acrílico, para dar 'consistência', tintas na cor branca, ocre, caramelo e preto. 
With the experience I have now, I'd probably have painted the wall with the color I wanted the mortar to be, as, at first, I was planning to leave the 'bricks' just like that, as if they were 'outstanding', lol. But as I didn't think of it before I started, the wall was green... So, I had to place some 'mortar' between the 'bricks'. I made some 'cement': some acrylic plaster (for thickness), and paint in the following colors: white, ocre, caramel and black. 

Tentei primeiro aplicar com uma seringa e uma ponta que ganhei de um dentista. Mas é muito difícil manter um fluxo constante, ficou feio. Tentei espalhar com um alfinete fino, mas não resolveu, continuou desigual e feio. 
At first, I tried to insert the 'mortar' with a syringe and a tip I got from a dentist. But it's hard to keep a constant flow of the 'mortar' and it didn't look good. I tried to spread using a pin, but that didn't work either, it continued to look uneven and ugly.

Não teve jeito, tive que usar rejunte! O problema é que para usar rejunte, tem que impermeabilizar bem o EVA, senão ele, sendo poroso, absorve boa parte do rejunte e fica todo esbranquiçado. E eu queria evitar isso, queria manter a textura natural dele. Mas não teve jeito: já tinha passado uma camada de verniz incolor spray para que a 'sombra' não saísse. Passei duas camadas de verniz fosco com um rolo de espuma. Depois de bem seco, espalhei o rejunte com uma espátula. Retirei o excesso com um pano úmido, sem esfregar demais para não retirar entre os 'tijolos', e passando várias vezes o pano úmido e limpo até retirar todo o excesso. 
As I couldn't think of any other option, I had to go for grout. The problem is that in order to be able to use it with EVA, the 'bricks' had to be waterproofed. It's a porous material and it absorbs part of the grout, becoming 'whitish' (and ugly!). I have been trying to avoid varnishing it. I did spray some varnish on it, but the artistic kind to prevent the powder 'eye shadow' I used to make the different shades from getting off the EVA. Well, no other option left, I applied two coats of matte varnish with a foam paint roller. After dry, I spread the grout with a spatula and removed the excess, gently (so as not to remove from the spaces between the bricks too), using a moist rag. I repeated several times, cleaning the rag in between, until all excess was removed. 

 Mais uma camada de verniz, para proteger o rejunte desta vez, e pronto! Na foto sem flash o verniz não aparece, mas na com o flash sim. Que pena... Ficou bonito, acho eu, mas não consegui deixar a textura original do EVA. Teria que fazer de outro jeito para conseguir deixar sem passar o verniz (com o rodinho, o spray tem que passar para não sair o pó da sombra, e ele não aparece).
After the grout had dried, I applied yet another coat of matte varnish, to protect the grout itself, and voilá! In the picture take without the flash, the varnish won't show, but it becomes clear in the picture taken with the flash. Too bad... It still looks good, I suppose, but I wasn't able to leave the original texture of the EVA, as I had intended. I would have to come up with another technique where I wouldn't have to varnish it...

I have just received an email from the next hostess telling me MJ has arrived to her house. Yay!!!

Vamos dar um tempinho para a MJ se refazer da viagem, contar como tudo se passou até ela chegar lá, e para a anfitriã conseguir fazer uma postagem contando tudo para a gente. 
Let's give them some time to get to know each other: MJ needs to recover from the long trip, and also some time to tell all about the journey to the new hostess. And the hostess needs some time to make the first post, so we can know all about it too.

Onde está a MJ? - Where is MJ?

Não, ela ainda não chegou na casa da sua próxima anfitriã. Mas achei importante informar quem está acompanhando a viagem da MJ....
Nope, she still hasn't arrived at her next hostess' house. But I thought it was important to keep you girls posted...

Em primeiro lugar, quero tranquilizá-los. Ela não está perdida por aí! Coloquei um rastreador na bagagem dela, rsrs... E desta vez ela NÃO ficou retida na alfândega! Vinny cumpriu sua promessa ;) Dois (2) dias depois de chegar ao próximo país, ela já foi liberada para ir para a casa de sua anfitriã!
First of all, I want to reassure you. She is not lost! I was careful enough to place a tracking device in her personal luggage... :) And this time she was NOT detained at customs! Vinny kept his promise ;) Two (2) days after she got there she was cleared to travel inside the country and go to her next hostess' house!

Porém.... acho que estão curtindo demais a companhia da MJ por lá, pois ela tem levado muito tempo para chegar ao seu destino, afff... Acho que está viajando pelo país de diligência, daquelas antigas puxadas a cavalo, rsrs... Enfim, espero que já tenhamos notícias da próxima anfitriã no início da próxima semana. Manterei todos informados. Obrigada pela paciência e continuem torcendo para que ela chegue bem ao seu destino!
But... I think they are enjoying MJ's company a little bit too much, as she's taking way too long to get there, geez... I think they made her travel by 'stagecoach', those pulled by horses, lol! Anyway, I'm confident we'll hear from her next hostess sometime soon (next week). I'll keep you all posted. Thank you for your patience and keep cheering for her safe arrival at her next stop!

Atualizando - Updating

Voltar para casa é sempre gostoso, por melhor que tenha sido uma viagem. Mas sem a MJ confesso que foi um pouco triste...
To get back home is usually comforting, no matter how good the trip might have been. But without MJ I admit it was a little sad...

Sinto que logo teremos novidades sobre ela, avisarei assim que ela chegar ao novo destino!
But I feel we'll soon have news from her in her new location. I will let you all know as soon as she gets there!

Sobre miniaturas, ontem (sábado) levei minha mãe para comprar biscoitos. Meus velhinhos (pai e mãe) não ficam seus seus biscoitos, então compramos em uma loja que vende artigos para festas, balas, biscoitos, etc, em quantidade e preços mais competitivos. E enquanto ela escolhia suas guloseimas, eu dei uma volta pela sessão de artigos para festas e para quem faz doces para festas. Sempre acho alguma coisa legal para fazer miniaturas por lá!... E desta vez não foi diferente! Achei estas 'cestinhas' para colocar doces de festas (brigadeiros, olhos-de-sogra, beijinhos, etc). São perfeitas cestinhas em miniatura! Equivalem a cestas de 36 cm no tamanho real. Poderiam ser usadas para colocar revistas, itens de costura, coisas de bebê, enfim, o que quiser. 24 cestinhas por $3,99 é uma pechincha, não?:)
About miniatures now: yesterday (Saturday) I drove my mom to a store where she usually goes to buy cookies and candy. My folks are addicted to that kind of junk food (my mom and dad, both 84...). We usually get those at a store that sells quantity and their customers are either party makers, candy makers or small stores, so their prices are great. While my mom would pick her stuff, I like to browse their party stuff area. I usually find some very interesting things there that can be used on minis. And I made a great find there this time too! I found those little card 'baskets', meant to be used with some party candies that are common here. But they are perfect for miniature settings too. They could be used to hold magazines, towels, sewing stuff, baby stuff, anything one wishes. 24 little baskets for $2 is quite a bargain, don't you think? :)

Mini Jazzi World Trip - Despedida / Farewell

Depois de tantos dias e tantas aventuras, vendo lugares maravilhos e aprendendo juntas tantas coisas sobre o Brasil, infelizmente chegou a hora da Mini Jazzi partir... :(
After all these days and so many adventures, visiting such wonderful places and learning so much together about Brazil, unfortunately the time has come for Mini Jazzy to move on... :(

E agora ela aprende mais uma palavra, tão brasileira, uma das 7 palavras mais difíceis de se traduzir entre todos os idiomas, mas que todos logo entendemos seu significado: saudade! Saudade é ter uma pessoa, um lugar, bem vivo dentro do coração e da lembrança, mas longe fisicamente. É sentir a dorzinha que esta falta faz...
Now it's time for her to learn another word, so Brazilian, one of the 7 most difficult words to translate in all languages, but one that we all understand the meaning in our hearts: "Saudade"! 'Saudade' is when someone, or a place, is very alive and present inside our heart and memory, but physically distant. It is when we feel that sweet pain of missing this special one...

Mas MJ não vai sumir por muito tempo. Hoje ela parte para seu novo destino (dá para ver que não estamos muito felizes esperando o horário do vôo, pela foto, rsrs...), que permanercerá em segredo para ser uma surpresa para sua próxima anfitriã, só sendo revelado quando ela chegar lá. Mas logo ela estará lá, vivendo novas e deliciosas aventuras, compartilhando com todas nós!
But MJ won't be gone for too long. Today she's leaving Brazil to go to her next destination (you can see we aren't exactly thrilled while waiting for the flight, lol...); which will be kept secret so that it will a surprise to her next hostess. It will only be revealed when she gets there. Do not worry: she will soon be there, living new and exciting adventures, and sharing it all with us!

Mini Jazzi World Trip (Day 11 in Brazil)

Hoje passamos o dia na última cidade da nossa lista. E é, de longe, o lugar mais fascinante de todos!

Today we spent the day in the last city of our list. And it is, by far, the most fascinating place of them all!

Bem no meio da Floresta Amazônica, na margem do glorioso e misterioso Rio Negro, fica a capital do estado, a cidade de Manaus. 

On the banks of the majestic river "Rio Negro" (black river), right in the middle of the Amazon Forest, lies the capital of Amazonas state, the city of Manaus.

É uma cidade com muitos contrastes, onde o selvagem e o moderno, onde a abundância e a pobreza, onde o fascínio da natureza e a destruição pelo homem convivem lado a lado, tudo lá é uma descoberta, uma aventura! 

It is a city with many contrasts, where the wild and the modern, the abundance and the poverty, where the fascinating nature and the destruction caused by men live side by side. Everything there is a discovery, a new adventure!

No tour pela cidade uma passagem obrigatória é pelo Monumento da Abertura dos Portos. Se você tem acompanhado meu blog, poderá se lembrar que este momento da história aconteceu em 1808, em Salvador, na Bahia.... Então, por que este monumento aqui???? É que, para impulsionar o desenvolvimento de toda a região foi aberto em Manaus uma 'Zona Franca', onde indústrias que lá se instalaram pagam uma carga bem menor de impostos, barateando seus custos. Depois que a riqueza trazida pela exploração da borracha se esvaziou, quando a árvore foi contrabandeada e cultivada com sucesso na Malásia, foi necessário criar novas formas de trazer pessoas e desenvolvimento para a região.

In the city tour, a 'mandatory' landmark to see is the "Monumento da Abertura dos Portos" (monument for the 'opening of the ports'). If you have been following my blog, you probably know by now that this historical episode happened in Salvador, Bahia, in 1808... So, why is this monument here??? That's because to promote the development of all the Northern region, a 'duty-free' zone was implemented in Manaus. The industries that settled there have benefited from very low taxes, which dramatically reduces their production costs. After the wealthy brought by the rubber extraction vanished, when the tree was smuggled abroad and successfully cultivated in Malaysia, it was necessary to create new ways to create jobs and bring people to populate and develop the region.

Por falar em riqueza da borracha, um dos prédios mais imponentes é exatamente o Teatro Amazonas, construído no auge daquela riqueza, no século 19 (1896). É algo desconcertante ver um prédio tão europeu lá no "meio" da floresta... Mas que é lindo, ah... isto é!

Talking about the wealth created by the rubber tree, one of the most pompous buildings is the Amazon Theater, built at the peak of that cycle, by the end of the 19th century (1896). It's kind of baffling to see such an European building there, in the 'middle' of the jungle... (actually, it's in the city) But it's undoubtedly beautiful!

Também vale muito a pena visitar o Centro de Artesanato Branco e Silva. Lá se pode encontrar qualquer produto tipicamente regional. É possível acompanhar a produção de peças ou comprá-las.  Reúne 23 lojas de produtos artesanais, além de um salão para exposições e atividades culturais, restaurante e floricultura. Também é possível provar da deliciosa culinária local.

It's also worth visiting the Crafts Center "Branco e Silva". There, one can find any kind of typical local product. It's possible to watch some of them being made or just buy them. There are 23 crafts stores, a large room for exhibits and other cultural events, a restaurant and even a flower shop. It's a great opportunity to try the local food (in the restaurant, of course, lol!)

Há muitos pontos turísticos interessantes na cidade. Mas vamos combinar: quem vai a Manaus quer mesmo é conhecer a FLORESTA, certo? :)

There are several interesting touristic places in the city. But let's be honest: whoever goes to Manaus usually actually wants to see the FOREST, right? :)

Há hotéis magníficos na cidade e redondeza, verdadeiros resorts 5 estrelas. Ficamos em um que está na beirada da floresta, às margens do rio Negro. Nesta foto abaixo, tirado de dentro da propriedade do hotel, o que você imagina estar vendo? Um estuário? Um mar? Um lago? Nada disso!!! É o Rio Negro!!! Nesta região tem cerca de 5 kilômetros de largura, mas pode chegar a ter 24 kilometros de LARGURA!!! Haja água!!! 

There are magnificent hotels in the city and around it, real 5 stars resort centers. We stayed at one that lies in the skirts of the forest, on the banks of Rio Negro. In this picture, taken from inside the property, what do you think is in it? A bay? The sea? A lake? None of those!!! It's THE Rio Negro!!! At this point it's about 3 miles wide, but it can be as wide as 15 miles from side to side!!! That's a lot of water!!...

Aliás, os rios são a vida de toda a floresta, tudo gira em torno deles. Então, a melhor forma de conhecer a floresta é pegando um das várias excursões fluviais. Pode-se até mesmo fazer cruzeiros, que duram entre 4 dias e 2 semanas. Há desde barcos mais simples a mais luxuosos, dependendo do bolso do cliente... :) Nós pegamos uma excursão mais simples, de algumas horas apenas. 

Actually, the rivers are the essence of life for the whole forest, everything gravitates around them. Therefore, the best way to see the forest is by taking one of the many river tours available. One can even take one of the cruises. They can last from 4 days to 2 weeks, and can be made in very luxury ships or more modest ones, depending on the depth of your pocket.. :) We took a simple tour of a few hours, just to look around.

Uma das atrações da excursão é ir ver de perto o "Encontro das águas": onde as águas do Rio Negro deságuam no Rio Solimões, e é somente a partir deste ponto que o rio Solimões passa a ser chamado de Amazonas. Essa união é muito especial, as águas dos dois rios são completamente diferentes e correm paralelas, juntas, por 6 km sem se misturar. A mistura completa dos dois rios só acontece 100km depois do encontro das águas!

One of the main attractions of all river tours is to see up close the 'Encounter of the waters": when the Rio Negro flows into the Solimoes river, and it's only then that Solimoes actually becomes the Amazon River. This is a very unique 'mingling', as the waters from both rivers are completely different in components, density and pH, so they run parallel, side by side for almost 4 miles, not actually mixing to each other. They only get completely mixed 62 miles after the initial encounter!

Logo paramos às margens do rio em locais estratégicos: para conhecer uma aldeia de indios. Prepare-se para ser cercado por crianças, sempre pedindo um "trocadinho" ou de vendedores, oferecendo seu artesanato, frutas locais, um pouco de tudo.

We soon stop somewhere along the margin, at strategic places: once to see one of the native 'indians' tribe. Get ready to be surrounded by little kids, always begging for some 'change' or people trying to sell their products: crafts, local fruit, fish, a little bit of anything.

Antes de pararmos lá, começa uma chuva torrencial. Os guias, com ares dramáticos, avisam que se a chuva não parar, teremos que desistir da excursão e voltar, para nossa própria segurança. Todos ficam decepcionados e preocupados, claro... e em menos de 15 minutos, a chuva que desabava sem dó, simplesmente para! Então os guias se divertem e informam que lá chove assim todo santo dia. Tem até hora marcada! As pessoas geralmente combinam seus compromissos para "antes da chuva" ou "depois da chuva". Bem, a Floresta Amazônica não é chamada de "Rain Forest" em inglês (floresta pluvial) à toa... 

But before we even got to the first stop, a storm started pouring down. The guides, with a flair for drama, warn us all that if the pouring rain doesn't stop soon, we'll have to cancel the tour and head back home, for our own safety. Everybody seems to be feeling a mix of worry, concern and disappointment  And in about 15 minutes, as suddenly as it started, the rain stops! Then the guides, obviously amused, finally reveal that such heavy and short rain is absolutely normal. The locals even use them as a time reference! People usually set their appointments for 'before the rain' or 'after the rain'. Well, the forest is called "Rain Forest" for a reason... 

Outra parada é para irmos de barcos menores pelos "igarapés". São pequenos 'braços' do rio que 'invadem' a mata. Na época das chuvas, os rios podem subir até 4 metros, formando estes caminhos e trazendo fertilidade ao solo. Fazemos antes uma parada para que, quem quiser, possa experimentar nadar nas águas do Rio Negro. É uma sensação muito estranha. A água tem cor de 'coca-cola' e é muito viscosa. Mas é seguro e saudável. E o melhor: o pH da água espanta para longe qualquer pernilongo ou borrachudo!!! :)

The other place we stop at is a natural harbor, and from there we'll proceed in smaller boats to see the 'igarapes'. Those are very narrow 'arms' formed during the rain season, when the river floods to about 13 feet above normal level. Those are naturally formed fluvial 'paths' into the jungle and the flooding water also brings fertility to the soil. Before we actually get on the small boats, we stay there for a while so that, if the most adventurous ones wish to, they can try a swim in the dark waters of the Rio Negro. It's a very weird sensation. The water has the same color as 'coke' and it's very slimy. But it's safe to swim and it poses no harm to health at all. On the contrary. The special composition of the water keeps away all mosquitoes, which usually pest people near rivers in tropical latitudes!... :)

Finalmente, fazemos uma trilha a pé pela mata, aprendendo com o guia local sobre várias plantas e sua utilidade para a sobrevivência. Várias são medicinais ou fonte de água potável para humanos e animais.

Finally, as the last part of the tour, we go hiking in the jungle, learning from the local guides about several different animals and plants, and how useful they can be for survival. Several plants have medicinal use or can be used as source of drinkable water, both for humans and animals.

O mais preocupante é que toda esta variedade e abundância de plantas e animais só existe se a floresta for deixada lá, em paz. O solo de toda a floresta é arenoso e muito pobre, o que mantém a vida são as folhas que caem e as plantas que morrem. Reciclagem total. Retirando sua cobertura verde, o que sobra é um deserto. Como o Saara, que já foi uma floresta exuberante há pouco tempo atrás (geologicamente falando)...

What is really disturbing is to find out that all that vast array of plants and animals can only exist if the jungle is left alone. The soil throughout the jungle is sandy and very poor in terms of nutrients. It's the foliage that falls from the trees and the dead plants that keep the whole ecosystem going. If the green 'mantle' is removed, it can turn into a desert in a matter of a couple of years. Like the Sahara, which was an lush jungle not too long ago (geologically speaking)...

A dizimação de florestas nativas é uma triste realidade em todo o mundo, e na maioria dos países, desenvolvidos ou não. Muito da floresta já foi derrubado, mas no Brasil agora há leis severíssimas para quem desmatar sem autorização e planejamento. Multas que chegam a milhões e prisão sem fiança. E mesmo as empresas que comprarem produtos produzidos em áreas desmatadas são punidas com severidade. Rigoroso demais? Se por um lado crimes cometidos contra pessoas já é algo horrível demais, crimes cometidos contra o meio-ambiente condenam toda a humanidade a um futuro terrível e desértico, podendo chegar até a nossa completa extinção. Então, ser rigoroso é algo razoável até, pensando que o que está em jogo o futuro de todo o planeta! 

The steady elimination of native forests is a sad reality all over the globe, no matter if we are talking about developed countries or third world ones. A large part of the green areas of the planet has already been taken down, replaced by pastures or plantations. Even in Brazil. But nowadays whenever someone or some company is caught in the act, they are punished with fines that can reach millions of dollars, and face 3 to 5 years of jail without parole or bail. Even companies who buy products originated from deforestation areas are subject to rigorous punishment. Too strict? Well, if on one hand any crime against one single person or a small group of people is horrible as is, on the other hand crimes committed against nature can compromise the future of all mankind, sentencing all of us to a parched, arid, desert future, which might even lead us all to complete extinction. So, being strict might actually be reasonable, if one takes into account that what is at stake is the future of the whole planet!

O ecoturismo pode ser a resposta para proteger a floresta.

Bem, com este dia mais que ecológico :) encerramos o tour da MJ pelo Brasil... Amanhã ela parte para seu novo destino em outro país (será uma surpresa), mas por enquanto ficamos aqui saboreando toda esta beleza verde e seus frutos exóticos. Até amanhã!

Well, with all that we saw and learned today to ponder :) we reached the end or MJ journey in Brazil... Tomorrow she must leave to her next destination, which shall remain a surprise and will only be revealed when she gets there. But for now we'll both stay here, enjoying all this green jewel around us and its exotic fruits. See you tomorrow, when we'll say goodbye to MJ and wish her luck in her new destiny!
