Troquinha - Swap

Eba, tanto eu quanto a Adriana recebemos nossas caixas com a troquinha bem rápido!
Yay! Both Adriana and I got our swap boxes really fast!

And now I can finally reveal what I made for her... :) She asked for a bed in "Shabby Chic" style, a style I have never done before. And she also said she loved folding screens... So, that's what I made! Doesn't this picture look like an authentic Victorian bedrom? :)

And here is the blurry picture I had published before next to focused one:

Next, just pictures. I made the bed from scratch, and the folding screen. The table (the structure itself) I already had, just did the painting and the skirting. The lamp and the crochet bedspread came in a lot I bought from Gayle & John Constable, from Canada. I thought they'd be a perfect match! The memories set I already had too.

I made a tutorial on how to make this folding screen. I posted it on DHB Club, a social network for miniature enthusiasts only. It's FREE, and to join it all you have to do is follow this link. There you can either register or link using your Facebook account. If you can't see the tutorial post right away, it's because your registration has to be approved. This will happen soon, and then you'll have full access. The need for approval is necessary to keep the community spammers-free.

Eu nunca consigo fazer 4 pernas cabriole iguais!!!
And here are the furniture pieces I got from Adriana. She made them all. Only the "sink" is from a collection by Planeta Deagostini. She had a duplicate and offered me one, which I gladly accepted. One of the taps got detached during transportation. But this is not a problem, as I was going to break that part apart and use them separately anyway. She's really talented! I can never manage to make all 4 cabriolet legs match!!!

E aí? - Wassup? :)

After I finish a major project in miniature, I dive so deep into it, that it usually takes me a while do "decompress" from that immersion before I can "dive" into another one. That's why I haven't posted much lately. But that does not mean, at all, that miniatures haven't been happening to me! :)

Obrigada Drora!!!
First, good news: I was the thrilled and happy winner of Drora's giveaway. Yay! :) As usual, thanks to our overzealous customs, it took a looooooong time for it to reach me, but thank goodness (and Drora's excellent and careful packing) it all arrived safe and sound. Yes, I got all the items in this picture! Wow!!! They are so adorable I'll have to place them in very special scenes. Thank you Drora!!!

The book on the "floor" is a printed one with all the psalms. Precious!
Did you notice the background of that picture? Well, I took some corrugated cardboard sheets I've been "collecting" - they usually come with some magazines to keep them from bending when they have some item with them - and I followed a tutorial on miniatures.about.com on how to make a background for your pictures. So I made this one... I already knew how to make the wall paneling, but there is a great tutorial on Dada's dollhouse blog on it. I won't show more pictures of it because you'll be seeing it very often here... :)

This is the back & bottom of the structure:

Surprisingly, it turned out very sturdy!

É a Adriana Oliveira. ;)
I do have many UFOs (UnFinished Objects) and NESOs (Not Even Started Objects) to tackle next (and for the next 20 years, it seems...), but even before I could pick one, I was contacted by a friend and miniaturist here in Brazil, Adriana Oliveira, for a one-to-one swap. Each one of us could choose more or less what we wanted, but it'll still be a surprise. I have just finished mine, but I cannot show you. You know, not to spoil her surprise! :) But I can and will show you some extreme close-ups and distorted pictures of what I did. If you can guess what I made for her, you'll earn the right to swap with me too, if you want! :D Don't worry, you can decide if you really want to after I reveal what I made for her, later on. But the guess has to be made now, on this post, ok? ;)

Banheiro da loja - A lavatory for the store

Ok, I know I said I wouldn't post about the store anymore! :) This is just, let's say, an addendum.

When I was planning the interior of the store, several months ago, I thought about including a small water closet (lavatory). I found a very interesting book that teaches how to make period lavatories using found items.

I didn't copy any of the lavatories in the book, but I did apply the same principles to make my own. I used the parts below, a porcelain sink I already had, balsa wood and made the parts.

I cut the plastic of a glue blister to make the water tank.
But, as I tested the layout, I realized an extra room inside for the lavatory would block the view to the interior of the store and take up a lot of space... So I gave up including one in the structure.

But I didn't give up on the pieces I had already made. Remember that fake door I placed on the back wall of the store for the pictures? Guess where it "opens" to?

That's right! I used the pieces I had made, printed the tiles for the walls & for the floor, assembled the box on foamboard, used a picture frame on the front and voilá! Here is the turn of the 19th century lavatory...

The candle is a commercial miniature, the holder/sconce is made of findings.
:) Gostou?
Well, I really doubt any 'regular' store back then would have such a fancy lavatory, but it was fun to make. :) How do you like it?

A loja está atendendo - And the store is open!

Finalmente o grande dia chegou: a loja está pronta!
Finally the big day has arrived: the store is open to business!

First, let's see it again from the outside:

Next a quick visit to the attic, which is also used to store some boxes and packages that have just arrived from Europe, and the lights plug & switches, disguised inside a crate.

Finalmente, vamos ver a loja em si!
And finally, the store itself!

The doors are open, and we can see some 'action' inside already: it seems that our saleswoman Lucília (on the right side of the picture) is already serving a customer...

Vamos nos aproximar mais!
Let's get closer!

On the left we see the smaller shelf unit, the one with threads, ribbons, lace, a couple of sewing machines, and also there is another sewing machine on its own table, a sewing mannequin and the spiral staircase, leading to the attic/storage room:

E aí está nossa freguesa, você sabe quem é?
And there is our customer, do you know who this is?

Yes, it's Mme Marie! She's examining carefully this beautiful lacy fabric, which has just arrived from Europe...

And she is not alone, it seems that her little princess, Juliette, came along with her mommy...

Monsieur Martin supervisiona tudo lá do fundo...
The central table, where some larger fabric bolts that won't fit the shelves are stored, and also where the customers can examine the fabrics they are interested in and, once chosen, they are cut. Monsieur Martin oversees everything from the back of the store...

Yes, from behind the counter, right next the cash register, he guides Lucília, suggesting fabrics for her to show the customers.

Here que can see Monsieur MartinLucília and the other shelf unit in the background, filled with imported fabrics: only the finest stuff!

Lucília is reaching for the reference meter and the scissors in order to cut the lacy fabric chosen by the customer.

The store doesn't have a window to display the items, but some fabrics are at display next to the door, on a specially designed stand, to attract customers.

We can now see Lucília from inside the store...

On the other side of the narrow street, opposite to our fabrics store, there is another store that sells religious items, like saint images, candles, etc. We can now see little Juliette better, grabbing her mommy's skirt, and I just noticed Mme. Marie's delicate umbrella leaning against the table.

Monsieur Martin acompanha o atendimento, atento a tudo!
Monsieur Martin monitors the service, watching everything!

And this post is the last one of the 1890's fabric store series... I hope you have enjoyed following me on my trip back in time! :)

Obrigada! Thank you!
